United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres joined a score of world leaders for the final funeral rites of the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The late Annan, the seventh occupant of the UN top post has since been buried at a recently built Military Cemetery where he was given a 17 Gun Salute, one of the highest honours.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Annan\u2019s long time friend, UNCHR Lifetime Ambassador and World-Renowned Soloist, Barbara Hendricks performed \u201cOh Freedom\u201d to a solemn service presided over by the head of the Anglican Church in West Africa.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tributes by the children, wife, family, the United Nations and the Republic of Ghana eulogised the man described by many as a global citizen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Current UN boss, Antonio Guterres said the late Mr Annan touched the hearts of many around the world through his work as a diplomat, peace keeper and peace maker.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo described Mr Annan as a quintessential diplomat whose works dignified his native country and his memories would be cherished for many years to come.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Leaders of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote D\u2019ivoire, Zimbabwe , were present while Norway, the Netherlands and several other countries\u00a0 sent high-powered delegations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Annan died in Bern, Switzerland at age 80. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He worked for the UN for almost 40 years, becoming its head in 2001.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
