Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has bemoaned recent trends and breaches in cyber security systems, which she says has serious implications on the country\u2019s cyber-culture, cautioning for all to access cyberspace responsibly.<\/p>\n
The Minister was addressing the 2018 National Cyber Security Awareness week programme, held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra.<\/p>\n
In a keynote address on Thursday to Participants, Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey re-iterated President Akufo \u2013 Addo\u2019s commitment to the development of a robust cyber security system in Ghana.<\/p>\n
The minister said global efforts through conventions such as the Malabo Convention which seeks to ensure harmonised legislation on Cybercrime within the Africa region and other member states, is a laudable.<\/p>\n
The convention particularly targets issues such as child online pornography as well as establishes a mechanism for combating violations of personal privacy.<\/p>\n
Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey pledged the Foreign Ministry\u2019s continued assistance to seek opportunities to enhance Ghana\u2019s cooperation both at the bilateral and multilateral levels in support of Government efforts.<\/p>\n
The Honourable Minister, however, outlined a number of measures including consistent awareness creation, while punishing such criminal acts to deter others from abusing the country\u2019s cyber-infrastructural space.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must deepen our efforts on building the confidence and creating a cyber-culture that places the burden of responsibility on the user\u201d, the Minister stated.<\/p>\n
The National Cyber Security Awareness week exercise was organized by the Ministry of Communications in collaboration with the National Cyber Security centre.<\/p>\n
It was themed, \u201cA safer Digital Ghana\u201d.<\/p>\n
Various stakeholders including National Security Minister, Hon. Kan-Dapaah, Minister for Defence, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul and host, Hon. Ursla Owusu – Ekuful of the Communications Ministry have taken turns to address participants in an effort to ensure a cyber-safe Ghana.<\/p>\n
