The United Nations Industrialization Development Organisation(UNIDO) would assist Ghana to accelerate the country\u2019s industrialization development agenda.<\/p>\n
The Director General of UNIDO, Mr. LI Yong made this known when he called on the Deputy Minister for Foreign and Regional Integration, Hon. Charles Owiredu on Friday, 29th March 2019. The Director General was in the country to sign the UNIDO Country programme with the Government of Ghana.<\/p>\n
Mr. LI Yong commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the \u201cGhana Beyond Aid\u201d agenda, \u201cOne District One Factory\u201d, \u201cOne Village One Dam\u201d and \u201cPlanting for Food and Jobs\u201d initiatives and assured that UNIDO would continue to support the industrialization agenda of the country to create the needed momentum for industrialization.<\/p>\n
The Director General underscored the importance of industrialization and emphasized that good industrialization policies and strategies were needed for the continent\u2019s economic development. He assured that UNIDO would continue to support Africa to achieve the economic goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for industrialization development.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Charles Owiredu on his part, said government was focused on delivering on the country\u2019s industrialization agenda as the basis for economic development. He added that Ghana would focus on agriculture development and value addition to raw materials.<\/p>\n
Hon. Owiredu stated that government had put in place measures such as the \u201cFree Senior High School\u201d policy, access to healthcare, and other pro-poor policies to enhance the human resource base of the country.<\/p>\n
He emphasized on the need to protect the environment in the quest for industrialization. He also thanked UNIDO for supporting African countries with their industrialization process.<\/p>\n
