The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Daren Tang, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) on Thursday, 20th November 2025.<\/p>\n
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Ghana and WIPO in line with the President\u2019s vision for economic transformation. The Director General commended Ghana\u2019s longstanding leadership in innovation and its active participation in the organisation. He further underscored the need to protect and commercialise Ghanaian cultural and creative arts assets, traditional textiles, and locally developed innovations. Mr. Tang expressed strong commitment to supporting Ghanaian youth, women entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and researchers through targeted IP initiatives.<\/p>\n
The Director General also highlighted WIPO\u2019s commitment to supporting Ghana in enhancing value addition in key agricultural sectors, particularly cocoa and cashew. A significant outcome of the discussions was WIPO\u2019s proposal to collaborate with the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) on an ‘IP for Diplomats’ programme, designed to equip Ghanaian diplomats with critical expertise in intellectual property and digital trade.<\/p>\n
