The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Republic of Colombia Her Excellency Francia M\u00e1rquez, in Bogot\u00e1 on 16th March, 2026 ahead of the 4th Session of the Political Consultation between the Republic of Colombia and the Republic of Ghana. The discussions between the two centered on strengthening bilateral relations and aligning positions on key global issues.<\/p>\n
Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Colombia for their steadfast support and underscored that Ghana\u2019s pursuit of reparatory justice is anchored in restoring the dignity, identity, and historical recognition of descendants of enslaved Africans, rather than financial compensation. He reiterated Ghana\u2019s commitment to leading efforts at the United Nations to formally recognise slavery and the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.<\/p>\n
He further commended the Vice President for her principled leadership and enduring engagement with Africa.<\/p>\n
Her Excellency Francia M\u00e1rquez on her side reaffirmed Colombia\u2019s strong support for Ghana\u2019s initiative to table a resolution at the United Nations to recognise the transatlantic slave trade and the enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity. She stated Colombia\u2019s intention to co-sponsor the resolution when it is tabled on 25th March, 2026.<\/p>\n
H.E. M\u00e1rquez lauded Ghana\u2019s leadership on the Reparations Agenda, describing it as a unifying effort that amplifies Africa\u2019s voice on the global stage while fostering deeper South-South cooperation and highlighted prospects for expanding cooperation between both countries, including exploring avenues for enhanced maritime and trade connectivity.<\/p>\n
