{"id":6475,"date":"2026-04-16T13:51:53","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T13:51:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mfa.gov.gh\/?p=6475"},"modified":"2026-04-16T13:53:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T13:53:07","slug":"deepening-development-partnership-through-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mfa.gov.gh\/index.php\/deepening-development-partnership-through-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"DEEPENING DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP THROUGH PROJECTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, 15th April, 2026 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the official launch of three development initiatives under Japan\u2019s Fiscal Year 2025 Supplementary Budget, aimed at advancing peacebuilding, digital transformation and health innovation.<\/p>\n<p>These projects are: Towards Achieving Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus in Bawku, Accelerating Public Sector Digital Transformation through Capacity Building and Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Improve Health Outcomes in Ghana While Addressing Its Potential Risks Undermining Human Security. The projects are being implemented in partnership with the Governments of Ghana and Japan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) with a combined initial investment of approximately US$1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering the welcome remarks, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) said that the initiatives reflect shared commitments to peace, inclusive development and responsible innovation, adding that the projects align with the national priorities in conflict resolution, digital governance and universal health coverage. He underscored the importance of the Bawku peacebuilding initiative, stating that it complements ongoing national efforts to restore lasting peace through an integrated humanitarian-development-peace approach that combines reconciliation, reconstruction, and long-term community resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the Bawku intervention, the National Security Advisor, Honourable Prosper Bani emphasised that sustainable peace requires more than security responses alone and stressed the need for dialogue, trust-building and inclusive development. He described the initiative as one that supports mediation efforts and strengthens local peace structures.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Honourable Samuel Nartey George (MP) highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in public administration, noting that Ghana is positioning itself as a regional leader in responsible AI governance. He announced that Ghana\u2019s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy has received Cabinet approval and is scheduled for official launch next week, describing the digital transformation project as a major step toward equipping public institutions with the capacity to deploy AI ethically and efficiently in service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, described the launch as a reflection of deepening the relations between Ghana and Japan and indicated the commitment of his country in supporting Ghana through human security-centred interventions that place people at the heart of peacebuilding, health advancement, and digital innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering a statement on behalf of the Minister for Health, Honourable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), it was stressed that the AI-for-health initiative would strengthen Ghana\u2019s health systems through improved disease surveillance, early outbreak detection, better data governance, and enhanced access to healthcare. The project would promote a more resilient, equitable and technology-driven health sector while safeguarding human security and data protection.<\/p>\n<p>The UNDP Ghana Resident Representative, Mr. Niloy Banerjee commended Japan for its consistent support and noted that the three projects represent a practical demonstration of how innovation, peacebuilding and resilience could be pursued simultaneously to improve lives.<\/p>\n<p>WHO Ghana Country Representative, Dr. Fiona Braka affirmed the commitment of the organisation to supporting Ghana\u2019s digital health agenda and informed that artificial intelligence in healthcare must remain people-centred, ethical, and inclusive. She noted that Ghana\u2019s experience under the initiative could serve as a model for responsible AI deployment across the region.<\/p>\n<p>The UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Zia Choudhury lauded the collaborative design of the initiatives and noted that the projects directly contribute to thirteen of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals.
