The global momentum behind our quest for reparatory justice is massive. The historic UN General Assembly Resolution (A\/RES\/80\/250), which declared the enslavement of Africans the gravest crime against humanity, was realised by a coalition of the AU, CARICOM, and the African Diaspora<\/p>\n
The year 2026, therefore, marks a pivotal moment as the global community collectively grapples with the indelible stain of our past, the transatlantic slave trade, a heinous crime against humanity that must never be forgotten.<\/p>\n
The establishment of three formidable Panels, following the Next Steps Conference in Accra, in June this year, to propel us forward is significant: the High-Level Advisory Council on Reparatory Justice, the Global Experts Panel on the Restitution of Cultural Heritage, and the Global Legal Panel on Reparatory Justice. Their mandate is to lead us in unearthing the truth, advocating for restitution, and ensuring that the language of justice permeates the halls of power and policymaking. The return of looted African artefacts, Legislative repeals, such as France\u2019s Code Noir, and historic acknowledgements and commitments from global institutions, will represent tangible milestones on our road to justice.<\/p>\n
Ghana, the birthplace of our collective struggle, will host a high-level side event on 23rd<\/sup> September during the 81st United Nations General Assembly Session, in New York, to receive progress reports from our established panels, and to catalyze a global dialogue. This is an invitation for the world to bear witness to our progress and the momentum of our cause.<\/p>\n Ghana invites all to join us in this noble endeavour, as we continue to lead the charge for justice, restitution, and dignity for Africa and people of African descent worldwide. Join in leaving your name in the annals of global history, in the spirit of unity and the relentless pursuit of justice.
