The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held a productive meeting with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, H.E. Dr. Johann Wadephul, in the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, with discussions focused on deepening Ghana-Germany relations and advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
The Ministers discussed economic cooperation and investment, including opportunities for German companies to expand their operations in Ghana, as well as collaboration in railway infrastructure and engineering, as Ghana pursues the revitalisation and modernisation of its rail network.<\/p>\n
They also exchanged views on migration and labour mobility, including the possibility of developing structured labour exchange programmes to create legal pathways for skilled Ghanaian workers to access opportunities in Germany. The Ministers further discussed irregular migration and the need to address its underlying drivers through skills development, education and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n
On peace and security, the Ministers discussed the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel and the threat of violent extremism, stressing the importance of stronger regional and international coordination. They also addressed the recruitment and trafficking of African youth into the Russia\u2013Ukraine war and reaffirmed the need to prevent the exploitation of African nationals in armed conflicts.<\/p>\n
Honourable Ablakwa also commended Germany\u2019s positive engagement on Ghana\u2019s reparatory justice agenda, particularly cooperation on the return and restitution of cultural properties and heritage. Both sides agreed to maintain close consultations and identify practical areas for further cooperation, and to conclude an implementation strategy for the important matters they discussed.<\/p>\n
