The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on fellow Africans not to see immigrants and people who travel using our free movement protocols, as people who are detrimental to their national progress.<\/p>\n
He made this point compellingly when he granted a one-on-one interview on Key Points, a TV3 Talk Show on Saturday 10th October, 2026, in a reaction to concerns about recent developments in South Africa about renewed tensions over a decision of its apex court on the right of asylum seekers in that country.<\/p>\n
The Minister stated that, \u201cwe should not see immigrants and people who travel using our free movement protocols, as people who are detrimental to our national progress. They are not parasites. We can have an arrangement where we have regulated migration, where the free movement protocols are respected, where the rights of all persons are not violated just because they are travellers\u201d.<\/p>\n
Describing himself as a perpetual optimist in the African project, in the integration agenda, the said he \u201cremained quite optimistic\u201d, and was a firm believer in the vision of Kwame Nkrumah that \u201cwe can unite, we can form a political union that will lead us into economic emancipation. We have won the battle against political subjugation, colonialism, imperialism. We now must win the war against poverty, the war against economic underdevelopment.
