GHANA AND VENEZUELA STRENGTHEN TIES WITH PLANS FOR NEW EMBASSY AND EXPANDED COOPERATION

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, His Excellency Yván Gil, on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

 

His Excellency Gil commended Ghana for its consistent defense of international law and acknowledged the longstanding friendship between the two nations. He announced that Venezuela would soon open an embassy in Africa, with Accra chosen as the host city. He further pledged increased scholarships for Ghanaian students and proposed expanding cooperation in the areas of agriculture and energy.

Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa welcomed the announcement of a Venezuelan Embassy in Accra, describing it as a milestone in bilateral relations. He assured that Ghana would facilitate all necessary procedures and indicated that Ghana would reciprocate by establishing a mission in Venezuela in the future. He expressed appreciation to Venezuela for the scholarship offers and proposed cultural exchanges for Venezuelan students.

Both Ministers emphasised priority areas of cooperation, particularly in energy generation, the oil sector, and agriculture, which remains a key focus of President John Dramani Mahama.
