The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier held bilateral discussions on Monday, 3rd November, 2025 during the State Visit of the latter. The discussions were aimed at deepening the cooperation and friendship between the two countries for the mutual benefit of the people. It also provided the platform for the two countries to review existing cooperation and identify new areas to further enhance the relations.
The two Presidents recalled the history of engagement which has existed between Ghana and Germany that predates the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1957. The considerable years of cooperation have culminated into technical and financial assistance which has yielded tangible results in the areas of health, education, vocational training, renewable energy, capacity building in peacekeeping and among others contributing to institutional development, youth empowerment and economic growth.
To facilitate safe and structured employment of Ghanaian professionals, the two leaders noted ongoing discussions for the signing of an Agreement on Labour Mobility. In the area of peace and security, they expressed concern about the rise in threats in the sub-region and emphasised the need to promote dialogue, trust, and regional cooperation.
At the multilateral level, His Excellency Mahama and His Excellency Steinmeier exchanged views on international peacekeeping and expressed optimism for collaboration in strengthening institutions through joint training, capacity building and innovation in an effort to address emerging threats such as cyber security and climate related conflicts.
A Joint Declaration of Intent on the Establishment of Political and Diplomatic Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana and the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany was signed.
Ghana and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen political, economic, people to people ties to pave way for deeper and more dynamic partnership that supports mutual goals of sustainable development, peace and prosperity.
