The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), led a delegation of Senior Officials from the Ministry to condole with the family of the late former First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, at her residence in Accra.

In his remarks, Honourable Ablakwa conveyed the Ministry’s deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, describing the former First Lady as an “Ambassador Extraordinaire” who served Ghana with distinction both at home and abroad. He noted that the Ministry, like many Ghanaians, had been deeply moved by the outpouring of tributes following her passing. He recounted the late former First Lady’s instrumental role in advancing women’s empowerment and social justice in Ghana and across the world. He stated that her pioneering contribution to the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women laid the foundation for key gender equality and legislative reforms in Ghana. “Her work for the gender empowerment movement continues to resonate globally,” he said.

He further informed the family that in honouring the late former First Lady during the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, Ghana’s flag and that of the UN were flown at half-mast during the Flag Raising ceremony. He then assured of the Ministry’s readiness to provide necessary support to ensure the full participation of foreign dignitaries.

He stressed that the legacy of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, will continue to inspire future generations to champion justice, equality and the empowerment of the vulnerable.
