GHANA AND ZAMBIA DEEPEN BILATERAL COOPERATION AT THE 2ND SESSION OF THE PERMANENT JOINT COMMISSION FOR COOPERATION (PJCC)

The 2nd Session of the Ghana-Zambia Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) was successfully held in Lusaka, Republic of Zambia, from 29th to 31st October, 2025. The meeting served as an important platform to review the state of bilateral relations between the two countries and to explore new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Senior Officials’ Meeting, held on 29th – 30th October, 2025 undertook a comprehensive review of progress made since the inaugural session of the PJCC in Accra in April 2023. Guided by a detailed report of their deliberations, the Ministerial Session, which took place on 31st October, 2025 was co-chaired by Hon. James Gyakye Quayson (MP), Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, and Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Zambia.

During the session, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in key sectors including trade and investment, mining, energy, defence, agriculture, education, youth and sports, and science and technology, among others. The Ministers reviewed the implementation status of existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreed on practical measures to enhance coordination and accelerate progress under the various frameworks of cooperation.

Hon. Quayson, in his closing remarks, conveyed appreciation to the Government and people of Zambia for the warm hospitality extended to the Ghanaian delegation and commended the spirit of partnership and mutual respect that characterised the deliberations. He reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to work closely with Zambia in translating the outcomes of the PJCC into tangible results that benefit the peoples of both nations.

The successful conclusion of the 2nd Session of the PJCC marks another milestone in the historic and enduring relations between Ghana and Zambia, a partnership rooted in shared Pan-African ideals and a common vision for regional integration, peace, and sustainable development.
