The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) on Wednesday, 11th February, 2026 received a delegation from Nuclear Power Ghana, led by the Executive Chief Director, Dr. Stephen Yamoah.
The delegation used the opportunity to apprise the Deputy Minister on progress made toward the use of nuclear for civil/peaceful purposes to boost energy production including site assessments, community engagement, vendor technology selection, capacity building, infrastructure development, regulatory compliance to ensure safety.
The delegation also highlighted plans for grid integration and regional power export through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), as well as efforts to position Ghana as a regional leader in nuclear energy.
In his remarks, the Honourable Deputy Minister commended Nuclear Power Ghana for its strategic approach for programme implementation and indicated that the Ministry support initiatives that promote the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology. He stressed the need to adhere to international safety standards and also strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to advance the nuclear energy objectives of the country.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nuclear Power Ghana to enhance the capacity of Ghana in nuclear
