THE MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS HOLDS BILATERAL MEETING WITH HIS BELARUSIAN COUNTERPART

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) held bilateral discussions with his Belarusian counterpart, His Excellency Maxim Ryzhenkov on Wednesday, 4th March, 2026.

During the meeting, Honourable Ablakwa informed his counterpart that Ghana is keen to strengthen political and economic cooperation between the two countries and translate the growing goodwill into tangible outcomes. He highlighted key areas for collaboration including agricultural mechanisation, education, and trade and investment. He noted that Belarus possesses considerable expertise in agricultural mechanisation and expressed Ghana’s interest in exploring partnerships that would support the country’s agricultural sector. Honourable Ablakwa also stressed the need to strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and proposed discussions on visa facilitation arrangements to ease travel between the two countries.

On his part, His Excellency Ryzhenkov affirmed Belarus’ commitment to deepening cooperation with Ghana. He stated the need to expand collaboration with Ghana in agriculture, industry, trade, and technology and outlined several proposed agreements that could provide a stronger legal and institutional framework for bilateral cooperation, including agreements on visa facilitation, customs cooperation, investment protection, and the establishment of a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation.

The two sides also discussed the importance of enhancing the relations between the two countries through high level visits. The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the longstanding ties of friendship between Ghana and Belarus.
