Her Excellency Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, on 13th August 2026, commissioned five (5) newly-appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate to represent Ghana abroad. They are:

His Excellency Dr. Senalor Kwabla Yawlui
(Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Norway)
Mr. Maxwell Nyarko-Lartey (Ambassador-designate to the State of Kuwait)
Mr. Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu
(High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria), and;
Mr. Isaac Joshua Essilfie
(Ambassador-designate to the Republic of
Niger)
H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang urged the newly-commissioned Envoys to safeguard Ghana’s national interests, strengthen bilateral relations with their host countries and their institutions to advance Ghana’s interests. She also charged them to promote Ghana’s interests abroad, support Ghanaians in the diaspora and foster stronger linkages with them for national development.
For each Envoy, the Vice-President had the following specific instructions
Kuwait: consolidate bilateral ties, resolve outstanding issues, promote trade & investment and strengthen engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora to promote their welfare and harness their contributions to Ghana’s development;
Sierra Leone: Sustain the momentum from the recent Ghana-Sierra Leone Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC), translate its outcomes into tangible results and deepen bilateral cooperation while protecting the interests of Ghanaians;
Nigeria: Deepen political and Economic cooperation, promote trade and investment, and work with Nigerian authorities to safeguard the interests of Ghanaians;
Niger: Sustain the momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following H.E. the President’s visit to Niamey in the year 2025 and deepen Ghana’s engagement with Niger and the Sahel region building on Ghana’s support for peace and stability in the region; and
Norway: Deepen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for cooperation in green technology, education, blue economy, research and others. She encouraged the Ambassador
and to explore opportunities for Ghana to learn from Norway’s experience in the effective management of resources.
The Vice-President, while assuring the Envoys of Government’s necessary support in the effective discharge of their duties, urged them to serve with distinction and to deliver on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) launched by His Excellency President John Mahama in September, 2025. She finally congratulated them and wished them success in their work.
On behalf of the Envoys, H.E. Dr. Robert Afriyie, Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Republic of Sierra Leone, expressed appreciation to H.E. the President for their appointments and assured the Vice-President of their commitment to diligently serve and contribute to Ghana’s development.
