The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) held a meeting with the Deputy Chief Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Ms. Sonja Leighton-Kone on Monday, 8th December, 2025 during her Working Visit to Ghana.
Ms. Leighton-Kone noted that this year marks 10 years of UNOPS in Ghana and reaffirmed the commitment of the agency to strengthen its cooperation with the country. She highlighted ongoing collaboration in key areas including climate-resilient, health systems improvement, sustainable procurement, and institutional capacity building. Among others she informed that UNOPS was collaborating with Ghana to develop Roadmap for resilient infrastructure for climate change, provision of essential medical and non-medical equipment to Ghana Health Service.
She further indicated that UNOPS was working to promote inclusive economic growth through programmes aimed at empowering women-led, youth-led, and disability-owned micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and mentioned the agency’s interest in expanding cooperation to include digital transformation, climate finance mobilisation and support for the development of bankable infrastructure projects.
The Deputy Minister acknowledged the various initiatives undertaken by UNOPS in Ghana and underscored that they align with the Government’s development priorities. He also assured of Ghana’s continued partnership in the pursuit of national development issues.
