FAREWELL CALL ON THE MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS BY THE AMBASSADOR OF LEBANON AND DEAN OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS

The Ambassador of the Lebanese Republic and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, His Excellency Maher Kheir on Thursday, 6th November, 2025 called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) to formally inform him of the completion of his tour of duty.

In his interaction with the Honourable Minister, Ambassador Kheir expressed his appreciation to the Government and People of Ghana for the hospitality and support extended to him and the Lebanese Community during his tenure. He noted the historic and enduring bonds of friendship between Ghana and Lebanon, citing Ghana’s longstanding contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) since 1978 as a symbol of the two countries’ shared commitment to peace and international cooperation. He also highlighted the strong people-to-people relations between the two nations and the collaborations in education, culture and trade. He mentioned initiatives such as the Lebanese Scholarship Programme, which has supported Ghanaian students in various academic institutions, the establishment of the Lebanon–Ghana Parliamentary Friendship Association, and the Lebanon–Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Cultural Cooperation, aimed at promoting mutual understanding and socio-economic development.

Honourable Ablakwa commended Ambassador Kheir for his exemplary service and impactful leadership as Lebanon’s envoy and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. He applauded the Ambassador’s contributions to education, health, and intercultural exchange and underscored that the scholarships offered to students are a testament to his commitment to human development.

The Minister assured of Government’s resolve to further deepen the cordial ties between Ghana and Lebanon.
