GHANA AND JAPAN SIGN EXCHANGE OF NOTES ON KUMASI INNER-CITY ROAD PROJECT AND NORTHERN REGION HEALTH CARE PROJECTS

The Republic of Ghana and Japan on Thursday, 2nd October 2025 signed Exchange of Notes for the “Project for the Improvement of Inner Ring Road in Kumasi City” and “Project for the Improvement of Health Care System in the Northern Region”. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto signed on behalf of Japan.

In his remarks, the Minister emphasised on the transformative potential of the projects. He stated that the Project for the Improvement of Inner Ring Road in Kumasi City would significantly ease traffic congestion, enhance urban mobility, and boost economic activity across the region. He further underlined that the Health Care Project in the Northern Region would expand health care facilities, provide improved medical services to improve the health and well-being of communities in the region. He also recounted a number of tangible benefits the relations between the two countries have yielded, including support to rice farmers, key research institutions in the country, awarding of scholarships and capacity building training for the youth.

Ambassador Yoshimoto on his part reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Ghana and highlighted ongoing support in the areas of human resource development, education, stressing that these initiatives are reflections of the enduring friendship and mutual trust between the two nations
