GHANA – QATAR LABOUR COOPERATION

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) held a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour of the State of Qatar Her Excellency Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani as part of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen labour cooperation with strategic partners.

The meeting focused on advancing Ghana’s Labour Export Programme with Qatar expressing strong interest in recruiting Ghanaian professionals in the health, tourism, information technology, transport and logistics sectors. This development forms part of broader efforts to create structured overseas employment pathways for skilled young Ghanaians.

Qatar has completed its ratification of the bilateral Labour Cooperation Agreement, while Ghana’s Parliament is expected to do the same. Once fully in force, the agreement will provide a clear and coordinated framework for recruitment, welfare and the protection of Ghanaian workers in Qatar.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Ghana and Qatar to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation for the welfare of their peoples.
