HEAD OF OFFICE AND REPRESENTATIVE OF UNESCO CALLS ON MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS

As part of ongoing engagements, as Ghana leads the African Union’s (AU) continental agenda on reparations, after the Union declared 2026-2036 as the Decade of Reparations to address historical injustices of slavery, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) held a meeting with the Head of Office and Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to Ghana, Mr. Edmond Moukala on Thursday, 27th November, 2025 to discuss cooperation between the organisation and Ghana to advance the cause of reparations.

Mr. Moukala recalled key events undertaken by the organisation in relation to the subject of reparations and applauded Ghana for its lead role on the matter. He assured of the readiness of the organisation to accompany Ghana and the African Union at large in pursuing the reparation agenda.

On his part, the Honourable Minister acknowledged UNESCO’s continued cooperation with Ghana and reiterated the country’s commitment to working closely with the organisation and other international bodies in seeking justice for Africans and People of African descent through reparations.
