On Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025 the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) received the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ambassador Asaye Alemayehu Dejjenie. During the meeting, the Honourable Deputy Minister and the Deputy Head of Mission agreed that though the relations between the two countries predates Ghana’s independence, much needs to be done between Ghana and Ethiopia in the area of trade and investment. In addition to the achievements in the area of political cooperation, the two agreed that it was an opportune time to also reap socio-economic benefits through trade in areas of comparative advantage under the framework of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Referring to existing Memoranda of Understanding, the Honourable Deputy Minister and the Deputy Head of Mission admitted that those frameworks could be used as springboard to further enhance the relations between Ghana and Ethiopia.
