INAUGURAL SESSION OF THE PERMANENT JOINT COMMISSSION COOPERATION (PJCC) BETWEEN GHANA AND ZIMBABWE

On Tuesday, 31st March, 2026 the Ministerial Session of the Inaugural Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) between Ghana and Zimbabwe was held in Accra with a view of putting in place a structured framework to guide the bilateral relations between the two countries which predate the independence of the latter. The PJCC was co-chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republics of Ghana and Zimbabwe.

Delivering his remarks, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) described the PJCC as a turning point in the relations between the two countries shifting engagement from historic goodwill to a focused and results oriented collaboration. He emphasised the importance of prioritising trade and investment, strengthening private sector cooperation and improving market access by leveraging the framework provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area. He further highlighted opportunities in key areas including agriculture, mining, education and skills development noting the need to translate these prospects into concrete programmes that drive job creation, economic growth and shared prosperity.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Honourable Proffessor Amon Murwira corroborated the statement by his Ghanaian counterpart for the pursuit of impactful diplomacy and reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to enhance the existing relations for the mutual benefits of the two countries. He added that diplomacy must deliver real outcomes in areas that improve livelihoods and propel development.

The outcomes of the deliberations would be presented to the Heads of State of Ghana and Zimbabwe during the State Visit of the latter to Ghana from 1st to 3rd April, 2026 and this is expected to culminate into signing of Memoranda of Understanding in areas of mutual interests to further strengthen the relations.
