REVERSAL OF U.S. VISA RESTRICTIONS ON GHANA

The United States of America has officially lifted the visa restrictions imposed on the Republic of Ghana in July 2025. Ghanaian applicants are now eligible for five-year multiple entry visas, together with other enhanced consular privileges.

This positive development was formally conveyed to Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), by the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Ms. Allison Hooker, during a bilateral meeting held on the margins of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The lifting of these restrictions is the result of months of constructive, high-level diplomatic engagement between the two countries. The Ministry recalls that the restrictions had limited Ghanaian applicants to a maximum of three-month single-entry visas, citing concerns over visa overstays.

The Government of Ghana welcomes this decision as an affirmation of the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and the United States. The Ministry remains committed to further deepening bilateral relations in a manner that advances the mutual interests of both countries.
