UNIDO TO SUPPORT GHANA’S INDUSTRIALISATION AGENDA

The United Nations Industrialization Development Organisation(UNIDO) would assist Ghana to accelerate the country’s industrialization development agenda.

The Director General of UNIDO, Mr. LI Yong made this known when he called on the Deputy Minister for Foreign and Regional Integration, Hon. Charles Owiredu on Friday, 29th March 2019. The Director General was in the country to sign the UNIDO Country programme with the Government of Ghana.

Mr. LI Yong commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda, “One District One Factory”, “One Village One Dam” and “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiatives and assured that UNIDO would continue to support the industrialization agenda of the country to create the needed momentum for industrialization.

The Director General underscored the importance of industrialization and emphasized that good industrialization policies and strategies were needed for the continent’s economic development. He assured that UNIDO would continue to support Africa to achieve the economic goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for industrialization development.

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Charles Owiredu on his part, said government was focused on delivering on the country’s industrialization agenda as the basis for economic development. He added that Ghana would focus on agriculture development and value addition to raw materials.

Hon. Owiredu stated that government had put in place measures such as the “Free Senior High School” policy, access to healthcare, and other pro-poor policies to enhance the human resource base of the country.

He emphasized on the need to protect the environment in the quest for industrialization. He also thanked UNIDO for supporting African countries with their industrialization process.
