VICE PRESIDENT OF COLOMBIA VISITS GHANA

The Vice President of the Republic of Colombia, Her Excellency Francia Elena Márquez Mina arrived in Ghana on 10th December, 2025 for an Official Visit. She was met on arrival by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) together with other Government officials and officials from the Embassy of Colombia. The visit is expected to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between Ghana and Colombia.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang granted her Colombian counterpart audience on 11th December, 2025 at the Jubilee House. The two Vice Presidents deliberated on a range of issues aimed at deepening the bonds of friendship between the two countries for mutual benefit. These included the promotion of people-to-people and cultural exchanges, tourism, trade and investment partnerships to create jobs to accelerate economic growth in the two countries.

As part of her itinerary for the visit, Her Excellency Francia Elena Márquez Mina on 10th December, 2025, graced the Closing Ceremony for the 12th Edition of the Colombia-sponsored Spanish Language Programme held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Beneficiaries of the intensive language training programme were officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of the Interior and Youth Employment Agency. The support from the Government the Republic of Colombia forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural and educational exchanges and also enhance the linguistic capacity of Ghanaian public officials for effective engagement with their counterparts.

Delivering her statement during the ceremony, the Vice President of the Republic of Colombia commended the commitment of both Governments in strengthening South–South Cooperation and acknowledged the tangible results the training programme continues to yield. She reaffirmed the determination of Colombia to deepen bilateral relations with Ghana through cultural exchange initiatives, trade, capacity-building and other joint cooperations. She encouraged continued global support for discussions on reparations and lauded Ghana for its role.

On his part, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP) highlighted the importance of effective communication in diplomacy and urged the graduands to put their acquired language skills to productive use in advancing Ghana’s international engagements. He applauded the Government of Colombia for its support for the training programme over the years and noted that the Vice President’s presence at the ceremony reflects the importance attached to cultural exchange and capacity-building.

Other notable personalities who were at the ceremony were the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs, His Excellency Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Director-General of the Presidential Agency for

International Cooperation of Colombia, Ms. Eleonora Betancur González and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Colombian Embassy in Ghana, Ms. Kelis Zulay Moreno Mosquera.
