The Government would continue to implement policies that would empower the youth of the country and give them a secured future.
This was made known by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, when a delegation from the newly elected National Executive Committee of the Ghana United Nations Students and Youth Association (GUNSA) paid a courtesy call on her on Friday, October 19, 2018.
Hon. Ayokor Botchwey reiterated the crucial role played by the youth in the nation’s development. She said a strong human resource base is needed for the country’s development and added that the government introduced the Free Senior High School policy to give equal opportunity to the youth of the country. She stated that the youth who need technical education should be encouraged to do so.
She indicated that initiatives that would create jobs for the youth have also been introduced to help prevent them from engaging in illegal migration at the peril of their lives.
The Minister and Chief Patron of GUNSA, commended the Association for its role in influencing the behaviour of the youth for positive national development and urged the Association to share ideas as well as contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS). She urged the newly elected executives to work to strengthen GUNSA at the local and international levels and assured them of the Ministry’s support.
The National President of GUNSA, Mr. Kwashie Klu-Duvor, thanked the Minister for receiving them and indicated that the visit was part of efforts to enhance relations between the Association and the Ministry.
He said the Association had 250 member branches across the country, and as part of their plans, they would be visiting various schools to educate the students on the activities of the GUNSA, as well as create awareness on issues that affect national development. He stated that the GUNSA had over the years empowered the youth to contribute to national development and assured that they would continue to play that role effectively.
