The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), received the Open Letters of the High Commissioner-Designate of Australia to the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Keara Shaw, on Friday, 24th July, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.
Honourable Ablakwa welcomed H.E. Shaw and congratulated her on her appointment and expressed confidence that her tenure would further strengthen the longstanding and cordial relations between Ghana and Australia.
The Minister described Australia as one of Ghana’s valued partners and underscored the importance of expanding cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest. He further noted that, Ghana was keen to leverage Australia’s expertise in the mining sector, particularly in implementing sustainable mining reforms aimed at reclaiming degraded forests and polluted water bodies. He also identified renewable energy as a priority area for collaboration, and highlighted Ghana’s commitment to increasing the use of solar energy to advance its energy transition and sustainable development objectives.
On her part, H.E. Keara Shaw thanked the Minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to further deepening its longstanding partnership with Ghana. She stated that Ghana and Australia share a proud history of friendship and cooperation built on mutual respect and common values and assured the Minister of Australia’s readiness to continue supporting Ghana’s development priorities. H.E. Shaw also reiterated Australia’s support for Ghana’s Reparative Justice agenda and pledged to work closely with the Government to advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
