The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), received the Open Letters of His Excellency Fouad Khazzaka, Ambassador- designate of Lebanon to Ghana, at a brief ceremony held at the Ministry on Friday, 24th July 2026.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa recalled the long-standing relations between Ghana and Lebanon dating back to pre-independence of Ghana and expressed the hope that the bond of friendship between the two countries would be further deepened during his tenure as ambassador of Lebanon to Ghana.
The Minister noted the immense contribution of Ghana to United Nations (UNFIL) peace keeping efforts in Lebanon for decades, which has cemented the bonds between the two countries, and could not be deemed to have been affected negatively by the recent sad incident of an attack on Ghanaian Soldiers in Lebanon, which was a matter still under investigation by the UN.
The Minister further highlighted the business acumen of the Lebanese businesses community in Ghana and called for deeper cooperation in trade, and for experience sharing in the motor manufacturing industry, construction materials, as well as pharmaceuticals industries.
In his response, the new Lebanese Ambassador expressed appreciation to the Hon Minister for his warm reception and congratulated the government of Ghana on the landmark United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution which declared the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity. He further pledged to deepen cooperation between Lebanon and Ghana in the field of education by working to increase Lebanese scholarships awarded to Ghanaian students.
