The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey (MP) received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Shi Ting Wang and officials of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.
In the spirit of the longstanding bond of friendship between the two countries, both parties extended warm felicitations for the New Year. Ambassador Wang recalled the strengthened relations between Ghana and China which has culminated into the signing of various agreements which was witnessed by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during his visit to China last year.
China, as described by the Ambassador, is committed to intensifying its co-operation by effectively collaborating with the relevant authorities to ensure that all 8 agreements that were signed after bilateral talks between the presidents of the two countries, commenced in good time for the mutual benefits of both countries. Notable among the agreements which have already commenced include, the 2nd Phase of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, the Sino-Hydro corporation and the drilling of boreholes across some parts of the country to ensure Ghana meets the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 which anchors on clean water and sanitation.
Ambassador Wang also disclosed that there would be a SOD Cutting ceremony to commission the biggest Ceramic factory in Ghana which would be located in Tema. The factory as noted, is the third factory constructed by China in Ghana, with the other two factories located at Takoradi.
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey acknowledged the increased level of cooperation between Ghana and China and affirmed that her outfit would not relent in ensuring that agreements signed during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s visit to China are duly implemented for the delivery of progress and prosperity to the Ghanaian people.
