Festival Of Nine Lessons And Carols Night And Awards Ceremony Held

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has held a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols as well as an Awards Ceremony to honour thirty nine (39) former Ambassadors who worked to advance Ghana’s Foreign Service.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who was the Special Guest of Honour for the ceremony which was held on Thursday, December 20, 2018, commended the Ministry for acknowledging the contributions and achievements of the former Ambassadors.

His Excellency Dr. Bawumia stated that there was the need to publicly celebrate the achievements and deep sense of patriotism the former ambassadors exhibited in the discharge of their duty to the country. He commended the recipients of the awards for working to advance the country’s Foreign Service.

The awards were in two categories, immediate and posthumous, fifteen (15) former Ambassadors received immediate awards whiles twenty four(24) were awarded posthumously. The Former Ambassadors who were awarded were;

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in her address thanked the Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for accepting to grace the ceremony. She acknowledged the significant role played by the distinguished former Ambassadors and added that they contributed immensely towards the growth and development of Ghana’s Foreign Service.

A former Minister for Foreign Affairs and a recipient of an award Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, on behalf of his fellow award recipients, thanked the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration  for bestowing the honour on them.

He was grateful the work which was done by the Foreign Service Officers in the early days of the Ministry had been appreciated. He also congratulated his former colleagues who received the awards and urged the families of the Ambassadors who received posthumous awards to be glad of their achievement in advancing Ghana’s Foreign Service.
