NEW YEAR GREETINGS HELD

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo has assured that government would continue to work to accelerate the development of the country and ensure prosperity for her people.

President Akufo-Addo made this known during this year’s presentation of “New Year Greetings” to the President of the Republic by members of the Diplomatic Corp on Tuesday 29th January 2019, at the Jubilee House in Accra. The annual event was held to strengthen the bonds for friendship and promote goodwill between Ghana and other countries as well as international organisations.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s commitment to promote the tenets of Ghana’s foreign policy as well as continue to work to uphold the country’s reputation which finds expression in her democratic credentials.

The President stated that the government had put in place a number of initiatives, geared towards accelerating the country’s development through industrialization for the country to eventually emerge as a modern prosperous nation. He further noted that the “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda was key to the advancement of the country and assured of his administration willingness to manage the affairs of the country properly.

The President was hopeful that the relations between Ghana and the respective countries and International Organizations would be further deepened through cooperation during the course of the year and beyond to help create prosperity and opportunity for all.

On programmes to enhance diaspora relations, President Akufo-Addo stated that this year, Ghana would host “The Year of Return” event which would mark the four hundredth (400th) anniversary of the arrival of the first West African slaves in the commonwealth of Virginia, in the United States of America. He added that the commemorative event would be an opportunity to welcome people of African descent from the Americas and Caribbean Islands and would help “to solidify the will of the African people, never again to suffer such indignity and horror”. He further urged the Diplomatic Corps to extend their support to make the celebration eventful.
