PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS UNDERTAKES FAMILIARIZATION VISIT TO THE MINISTRY

On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs for a familiarization visit aimed at improving institutional collaboration and assessing major foreign policy initiatives. It brought together Members of Parliament on the Select Committee and the Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both sides emphasized the need for open engagement in defining Ghana’s foreign policy with a common purpose.

 

Addressing the Select Committee on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Ambassador Ramses Cleland, Chief Director of the Ministry expressed gratitude to the Committee for the critical role it plays in the Ministry’s engagements. He further underlined the Ministry’s commitment for collaboration with relevant stakeholders in harmonizing foreign policy with national development goals and highlighted the cooperation exhibited during a joint official mission to the United Arab Emirates.

 

In addition, the Chief Director reiterated the Ministry’s commitment for “a more responsive, innovative, and development-oriented foreign service.”  He then underscored the significance of diplomacy as a tool for national growth.

 

The Select Committee on its part, acknowledged that the key reform initiatives undertaken by the Ministry which include the introduction of chip-embedded passports, courier delivery service, electronic tracking and 24-hour operation at selected Passport Application Centres, a guaranteed 15-working-day turnaround for applications and 24-hour emergency service will increase efficiency and eliminate intermediaries from the process.

 

The Committee also visited the Accra International Conference Centre and Passports Head Office.
