The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, has called for the active participation of the youth in shaping the future of diaspora engagement.
He made this point strongly on Friday 30th October, 2026, at University of Ghana, Legon, as Special Guest Speaker at the historic Inaugural Open D.O.O.R. National Dialogue, under the compelling theme, “Come Home. Stay Home. Build Home.”
Hon. Gyakye Quayson stated that, “the active participation of young people is equally significant as their ideas and energies will shape the future of Diaspora engagement. I am therefore encouraged by the presence of students, researchers, professionals, and entrepreneurs, whose diverse perspectives will enrich these discussions and help translate aspirations into lasting impact”.
He was however quick to note that, “at the same time, we cannot ignore the high number of young people leaving our continent seeking opportunities abroad. It appears that this issue extends beyond employment alone. It speaks to aspirations for quality education, professional advancement, economic mobility, innovation, and the pursuit of a perceived better quality of life”.
In view of that, he stated that, “as we listen to the voices of our youth, Government is more determined to respond with understanding and purpose. The global ambitions of the youth should not be viewed as a challenge, but as a source of inspiration for national renewal and resetting. The aspirations of our teaming youth compel us to build a Ghana where talent is nurtured, opportunities are expanded, and young people are empowered to realise their full potential at home while contributing confidently to national development and competing successfully on the global stage”.
The Decade of Our Repatriation (D.O.O.R.) is a landmark initiative by Professor ?benfo Bakari Kambon, in partnership with the College of Humanities, University of Ghana. The initiative seeks to transform decades of discourse on repatriation, Pan-Africanism, and diaspora engagement into concrete, measurable, and sustainable actions that promote cultural reconnection, socio-economic integration, investment, and knowledge exchange
