CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE 2ND EDITION OF THE CHINESE LANGUAGE PROGRAMME

The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Confucius Institute of the University of Ghana held the Closing Ceremony of the 2nd Edition of the Chinese Language Programme on Thursday, 12th March, 2026.

In a statement delivered on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, the importance of language in diplomacy and international relations was emphasised and it was noted that linguistic competence enhances effective communication and strengthens cultural understanding.

In her welcome address, the Coordinating Director of the Foreign Service Institute, Ambassador Perpetua Dufu, highlighted that language is one of the most powerful instruments of diplomacy and emphasised the importance of linguistic competence in today’s interconnected global environment. She explained that the programme which was introduced in 2025, forms part of the Institute’s broader mandate to strengthen the capacity of public sector officials cross-cultural communication.

On his part, the Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Wenfu Li expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Service Institute for their continued support for Chinese language education in Ghana and noted that learning the Chinese language serves as an important bridge for cultural understanding and further strengthens the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Ghana and China.

The ceremony was also attended by the Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Professor Liu Baijun, the Secretary General of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr. Stephen Shum, the President of the Ghana-China Chamber of Commerce, Directors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs among others.

The graduands who are Officials drawn from various institutions in the public service demonstrated their Chinese language skills through performances. Awards were presented to deserving graduands in recognition of the successful completion of the programme.
