DIASPORA ENGAGEMENT IS NOT MERELY ABOUT ATTRACTING INVESTMENT: HON. JAMES GYAKYE QUAYSON

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, on Friday30th October, 2026, was Special Guest Speaker, at the historic Inaugural Open D.O.O.R. National Dialogue, under the compelling theme, “Come Home. Stay Home. Build Home.”

The Decade of Our Repatriation (D.O.O.R.) is a landmark initiative by Professor ?benfo Bakari Kambon, in partnership with the College of Humanities, University of Ghana. The initiative seeks to transform decades of discourse on repatriation, Pan-Africanism, and diaspora engagement into concrete, measurable, and sustainable actions that promote cultural reconnection, socio-economic integration, investment, and knowledge exchange.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister stated that:

“Let us remember that, diaspora engagement is not merely about attracting investment or increasing visitor numbers. At its core, is the need to build enduring relationships anchored in trust, mutual respect, shared identity, and common purpose”.

“For Ghana, it goes beyond advocacy into strengthening our position as the gate of return to Africa, a hub for innovation and opportunity, and a sanctuary for people of African descent worldwide. It means creating an environment where heritage is celebrated, potential is realized, and every individual can contribute meaningfully to national development”.

“It is my expectation that this initiative would be an opportunity for a renewed commitment to building lasting relationships between Ghana and the African diaspora”.
