Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, welcomed the new UNIDO Representative, Mr. Fakhruddin Azizi, to Ghana. She expressed the hope that his presence in Ghana would lead to a further enhancement in the areas of cooperation, between Ghana and UNIDO, geared towards Ghana’s development. She commended UNIDO for its continued support to the country’s development, and the consistent cooperation with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The Minister underscored the point that, what Ghana and the rest of Africa need, is an industrialised economy, which goes beyond aid.
On his part, Mr. Azizi acknowledged the importance of industrialisation in the country’s development agenda. He further lauded the “Ghana Beyond Aid” initiative. He referred to Sustainable Development Goal, Nine (SDG9), which is, to “Build Resilient Infrastructure, Promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialisation and Foster Innovation”, and assured that UNIDO would avail to Ghana, the relevant experts, to facilitate the realisation the country’s industrialisation initiatives. He also assured the Minister, of UNIDO’s continued support, during his tenure.
