The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in conjunction with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna School of International Studies, held a Training Seminar for some selected officers of the Ministry on the theme: “Doing Diplomacy in an Era of Change” from 13th – 14th May, 2019.
The purpose of the Seminar was to introduce the participants to critical and emerging issues in International Relations and how the traditional global order can best be calibrated to address the evolving challenges of the international system through a firm grasp of the post-1945 world order and best diplomatic practices.
In all, thirty-one (31) officers participated in the two-day seminar, was facilitated by Prof. Markus Kornprobst from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna School of International Studies. The seminar was preceded by a brief opening ceremony attended by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ambassador Albert Yankey, and the Honorary Consul of Austria in Accra, Ms. Rosemary Orthner.
In his address, Ambassador Albert Yankey said the organization of the Seminar in Accra was reflective of the warm and cordial relations, which have existed between Ghana and Austria since the 1960’s and demonstrated the commitment of the two governments to enhance bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries and their peoples.
On her part, Ms. Rosemary Orthner underscored the growing relations between Austria and Ghana, and expressed the desire of working to further deepen the already cordial relations between the two countries. She promised to rigorously engage the Ministry in pursuit of that objective.
At the end of the seminar, the Director of Administration of the Ministry, Mr. Harold Agyeman, urged the participants to ensure that the knowledge and skills they had gained reflect in their work. He also admonished them to continue learning by reading widely on issues of international affairs. Mr. Agyeman further assured the officers that the Ministry would continue to provide training opportunities to take care of their training needs.
He further expressed the Ministry’s profound appreciation to the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna School of International Studies and to the distinguished lecturer, Prof. Markus Kornprobst, for the collaboration.
