As part of efforts to further strengthen the bilateral ties between Ghana and Jamaica through a structured framework, the Senior Officials Meeting of the 3rd Session of the Ghana-Jamaica Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) was held on 25th May, 2026 in Accra. The meeting was co-chaired by the Coordinating Director for Political and Economic Affairs, Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman and the Under-Secretary for Bilateral, Regional and Hemispheric Affairs, Ambassador Symone Betton Nayo.
Underscoring the enduring ancestral and historical ties between Ghana and Jamaica, Ambassador Agyeman noted that relations between the two countries continue to reflect the cultural and historical bonds shared by the people. He highlighted the growing collaboration between Ghana and Jamaica across various sectors, including initiatives such as Black Star Experience and the Year of Return which continue to strengthen cultural exchanges and deepen people-to-people relations. He added that the reconvening of the PJCC presents an opportunity for both countries to harness the full potential of the relations and allow both sides to deliberate on issues of mutual interest. Continuing, he referenced the Visa Waiver Agreement signed between Ghana and Jamaica in June, 2019 and its importance in facilitating closer interaction between the people. He further emphasized the need to promote collaboration between the private sectors of both countries to drive economic growth and sustainable development.
Recalling the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Jamaica since 1958, Ambassador Nayo stated that the reconvening of the PJCC marks a renewed commitment by both countries to deepen bilateral relations rooted in mutual respect, shared cultural heritage and commitment to democratic governance.
The delegations held discussions on a number of issues of mutual interest including social and humanitarian cooperation, culture, political, legal affairs and security cooperation.
