The out-going Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, H.E. Madam Sun Baohong paid a farewell call on the President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, 10th April, 2018. Present at the ceremony were, the Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ministers of State, the Dean and members of the Diplomatic Corps and the Chief Director of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ambassador Ekow Yankey.
At a farewell luncheon held in honour of Ambassador Sun Baohong , H.E. Akufo-Addo indicated that, Sino-Ghanaian relations had gone a notch further during her tenure . The President commended the Chinese Government for the signed agreements between the two countries by the Finance Minister, Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta and the outgoing Ambassador. The President further urged the outgoing Chinese Ambassador, to be a voice for Ghana and to continue promoting the strong relations between the two countries.
On her part, the outgoing Chinese Ambassador expressed appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for the “extremely friendly gesture”. She stated that, the gesture demonstrates the President’s strong commitment to the promotion and the further development of relations between both countries.
She further indicated that, Ghana is one of China’s key trading partners, and main source of foreign investment. She intimated that, the bilateral trade volume between the two countries had risen from $5.6 billion USD in 2014, to $6.68 billion in 2017, with Ghana’s exports to China reaching a historical $1.85 billion mark. She stated that, “The Chinese side has implemented a dozen of major cooperation projects through grants and loans. Those projects have made important contribution to Ghana’s economic development and improvement of people’s livelihood.”
