MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND REGIONAL INTEGRATION HOSTS ANNUAL CHIEF DIRECTORS’ DINNER ON WEDNESDAY, 27TH DECEMBER, 2017

The Annual Chief Directors’ Dinner was hosted by the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Wednesday, 27th December 2017, at the Accra International Conference Center. The event was well attended by Chief Directors and retired Chief Directors of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as the leadership of the Civil Service.

In his opening remarks, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ambassador Albert Yankey, welcomed fellow Chief Directors, members of the Civil Service Council, retired Chief Directors and invited guests, to the gathering. He further thanked them for honouring the invitation. According to him, by the very nature of its work, the Foreign Ministry seems to be isolated from other Civil Service Organisations. He, therefore, stressed the need for such gatherings to be organised in order to bring all civil servants under one umbrella. According to him, the idea of the Ministry hosting the event was mooted during a retreat for Chief Directors at Sogakope, in the Volta Region. He called for closer collaboration and networking among Civil Service institutions for the development of the nation. Ambassador Yankey lauded the unfailing support of the Hon. Minister and the two Hon. Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in seeing to it that the event came to fruition.

On his part, the Head of Civil Service, Nana Kwesi Agyekum Dwamena, stated that, the organisation of the event was important, as it sought to bring together both Members of the Civil Service Council and civil servants. He went further to introduce the members of the Civil Service Council. Nana Agyekum Dwamena, charged all present to work hard in order to clear misconceptions about the Civil Service.

Justice Rose Constance Owusu, Chair of the Civil Service Council, seized the opportunity to solicit the support and cooperation of all gathered, during their four-year tenure in office. According to her, the task ahead was onerous. She, therefore, urged the gathering to deliver in making the Civil Service an institution of honour and respect. Justice Rose Constance Owusu called on civil servants to help the Council in the discharge of its duties.

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Charles Owiredu, speaking on behalf of the Minister, lauded the idea of hosting such an event which sought to bring together civil servants under the esteemed leadership of the Civil Service. He expressed the Ministry’s profound appreciation for the rare opportunity to host the Annual Chief Directors’ Dinner. The Honourable Deputy Minister used the opportunity to thank the Head of Civil Service, for his efforts in forging closer ties amongst various Ministries, Departments and Agencies. He urged civil servants to build upon the achievements made so far, in the coming year. He indicated that, the Ministry’s efforts, together with the support of the Public Service,is replicated in the unprecedented number of foreign dignitaries who visited the country in the past twelve months.
