The World Lebanese Cultural Union, a Non-governmental Organisation, which is the sole representative of the Lebanese people in the Diaspora has presented an award to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and a special award to the sector Minister, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey for promoting excellent relations with the Lebanese Community in Ghana.
The NGO is associated with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations and accredited with the United Nations Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC).
Presenting the awards to the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, on Thursday 28th March 2019, the World President of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, Mr. Chakib Rammal, commended Ghana for cooperating with the Lebanese community in Ghana since 1884. He stated that the friendship between the two countries had been mutually beneficial.
He added that the awards were “token of the loyalty and appreciation to the Ghanaian Nation for its hospitality”.
Mr. Rammal expressed his country’s appreciation to the Ghana Armed Forces for helping with peacekeeping operations in Lebanon for over 35 years. He also thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for facilitating trade and investment between the two countries.
Receiving the awards, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Charles Owiredu recalled the long standing relations between the two countries. He acknowledged the contributions of Lebanese to Ghana’s development. He thanked the NGO for the award and called for further collaboration and investment for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
